The Staircase: In Review

Michael Peterson is such an interesting character. He is an author, veteran, and accused killer of two women from his past.

Maybe you have read his books, maybe not. But if you’re reading this, you have probably seen the Netflix docu-series The Staircase, which paints the case of Kathy Peterson, Michael’s late wife, from the defense’s perspective.

Everything from the crime scene to the long trials and a look inside Michael’s life on house arrest- it’s all there. If you are not capable of stomaching crime scene photos, then either look away or don’t watch this entirely. A lot of the strategy comes from those photos and expert testimony in regards to the autopsy and the blood spatter- and it ain’t pretty!

Setting the Scene.

Michael and Kathy Peterson were enjoying the late evening outside with some drinks. Kathy decided to go up to bed, and Michael said he would be up in a little bit, he wanted to stay outside a while longer. Nothing out of the ordinary.

But then, somehow, someway, Kathy is at the bottom of the staircase in the house bleeding to death…

Investigators immediately think something is off. A real whodunit case with tons of twists and turns.

Did Michael commit the crime and kill his wife? Or did an owl swoop into the home and attack Kathy causing her to fall down the steps? Or did she simply slip and fall?

You be the judge.
